Endoscopy structure of automorphic forms was discussed by Langlands in early 1980\'s when he takes the approach using the trace formula method to establish Langlands functorial transfers from classical groups to the general linear group.
The existence of such endoscopy structures for quasisplit classical groups has been confirmed by a recent work of Arthur (also that of Mok) based on the fundamental work of Ngo, Waldspurger, Laumon, Chaudouard, and others.
Over the last 40 years, on the other hand, explicit constructions of automorphic representations and the relevant Langlands functorial transfers have developed by many people. I would like to put them in the framework of classical invariant theory and Howe duality, in particular, the new theory of endoscopy correspondences of automorphic forms for classical groups, which gives explicit realization of the endoscopy structures.
