A primitive Hecke-Maass cusp form corresponds to a cuspidal unitary automorphic representation of GL(2).
The Langlands functoriality conjecture predicts that all its unramified local components are tempered, i.e. the Ramanujan-Selberg conjecture on the Hecke and Laplacian eigenvalues is true.
In this talk I'd like to sketch my recent joint work with Fan Zhou which provides sharp bound for the asymptotic density of the tempered local components.
