Analytic torsion is certain combination of the determinants of the Laplacian on differential forms. It is introduced as an analytic analog of the so called Reidemeister torsion, the first topological invariant which is not homotopy invariant. It has found many remarkable applications in diverse fields such as number theory, dynamical system, topology etc. We will introduce the analytic torsion and its various generalizations and talk about its applications, including some of our recent work on its connection with modular forms.
