We will discuss our recent work on discrete uniformization for polyhedral surfaces. The relationship between discrete uniformization and the classical works of Cauchy, Alexandrov and Pogorelov on convex polytopes and convex bodies in Euclidean and hyperbolic 3-space will be addressed. This is a joint work with D. Gu, J. Sun and T. Wu.
