Abstract: In recent years there has been a lot of work on the structure of 3-manifolds
and on questions about maps between them. I will describe some of this work, and state some work in progress towards answering some open questions, and towards developing a structure theory for the set of homomorphisms from an arbitrary finitely generated group to the set of all 3-manifold groups.
This is joint work with Michael Hull and Hao Liang.
