I will survey my work with Ginzburg and Rallis, where we constructed, for a given self-dual (irreducible, automorphic,) cuspidal representation \\tau on GL(n), a generic, cuspidal representation \\pi on an appropriate classical group, such that \\pi lifts functorially to \\tau. The construction results naturally from Rankin-Selberg integrals for GxGL(n). The automorphic descent of \\tau, which is the representation \\pi, is obtained by applying a certain Fourier coefficient, stabilized by G, to the residue at s=1 of a certain Eisenstein series parabolically induced from \\tau.<\/span>
