Abstract: I will present joint work with Jiaping Wang (University of Minnesota) about complete noncompact four dimensional shrinking solitons. We proved that if the scalar curvature converges to zero at infinity, then the manifold is asymptotic to a cone, and if the scalar curvature has a positive lower bound, then the manifold is asymptotically cylindrical. The goal of my talk is to explain this result and its applications, and to discuss some further problems.
