Differential equations are important not only in physics, analysis, and geometry, but more recently also in number theory. The talk will discuss some of these connections, in particular with modular forms and with questions coming from mirror symmetry. As motivating example throughout we will use the famous numbers introduced by Apery for his proof of the irrationality of $\zeta(3)$.
