The study of singularities of minimal submanifolds and other geometric extrema (e.g.\ harmonic maps) depends to a large extent on developing sufficient understanding of asymptotic behavior of solutions on approach to singular points. This talk will survey some the main results and also some of techniques used in the analysis.
