Information technology advances have revolutionized data collection for all fields in science and engineering. Statistics is indispensable for extracting useful information from the massive and high-dim data available.
In this talk, I will give an overview of research in my group on statistical machine learning and interdisciplinary research at UC Berkeley. I will cover some theory for sparse modeling and data projects from neuroscience, remote sensing and text mining. In particular, I will show results from our collaborative work with the Gallant Lab on movie reconstruction from fMRI brian signals.
