Special functions always play an important role in many subject of mathematics. There has been an extensive study of harmonic functions on complete noncompact manifolds. An important task is to study the dimension of the space formed by harmonic functions of polynomial growth up to a fixed degree. In this talk, we discuss ancient solutions of the heat equation on complete noncompact manifolds and study a similar question.
